Our Boat

Caloosa Spirit

Catalina 42 mkII

Summer Hiatus 2008

Perhaps it will come as a surprise to some out there that we’re already back in Indiana. Our earlier plans had us remaining in Florida for another few weeks, with a haul-out and trip to Indy in early July. However, just before our departure from the Abacos Lauri phoned to let us know that a dear friend at First Congregational Church had suddenly passed away. We hated to miss the opportunity to celebrate his life, but when we learned that his memorial service was scheduled for mid-June, we decided to push our plans forward and try to make it north in time to attend.

After Mike made a quick trip to Vero to pick us up, we spent a few days in the Tampa Bay area visiting with him and several cruising friends, then returned with our car to Vero to find a suitable do-it-yourself boat yard in Ft. Pierce. Riverside Marina and Boatworks seemed to be just the place, so we headed down there from Vero Beach to occupy a slip for a couple of days while we readied Caloosa Spirit for a haul-out and storage. Earlier this week the lift from the water went off without a hitch, we finished the last of our storage preparation, and then drove off northbound.

We’ll stay with Mom for a month or so, then spend some quality time with Lauri and Alex in their home for another month. As always, we hope to visit with our many friends in the Indy area during the time that we’re here. Our return to Caloosa Spirit in late August or early September will involve more boat work (bottom painting and the on-going list of projects), but for now we’ll enjoy the relaxing hiatus.

Fair winds and a faithful wake until next time,
Alice & Jim Rutherford
